Lake Titicaca is Peru’s Natural Heritage and is nothing more and nothing less than the highest navigable lake in the world, keeping in its waters ancestral history and culture. In Lake Titicaca you will find the Floating Islands of Uros, Taquile Island, Amantani Island, among many others, which are inhabited by communities with ancestral customs.

How high is Lake Titicaca in Puno?

Lake Titicaca is located at 3,927 meters above sea level .The Uros Floating Islands maintain the same altitude but Taquile Island and Amantani Island and the other natural islands are at a higher altitude.

What is the best season to visit Lake Titicaca in Puno?

In Puno and Lake Titicaca there are 2 very important seasons: the Rainy Season and the Dry Season or High Season.

In the Rainy Season (December to March), you will find warm and humid days, it is not as cold as in the rest of the year. Daytime temperatures in this season range from 13°C and 20°C and, at night, between 3°C and 7°C. The months with the most rainfall are July and August.

Although you will find many rainy days during this season, you will also have many sunny days. I suggest you start your visit to the scenic places from 10:00 am, as you will find the skies clearer and you will be able to enjoy your stay in Puno.

Advantages: The hills and mountains have a spectacular green color, in addition, in this season you will find low prices in tours, lodging, restaurants, among others, since there is less influx of travelers.

In the Dry Season (April to November) you will find hot, clear days with lots of sun, but at night the days are very cold, since in this season frosts are formed (water freezing) and, the temperature can reach below 0°C. The daytime temperature in this season ranges between 15°C and 25°C and at night, between 0°C and 7°C.

Advantages: in this season you will find many more options for tours, activities, accommodations and restaurants, but there will be many travelers and some merchants tend to raise the prices of their services and products due to the high demand.

Personal recommendation: visit Puno during the first days of February, because in these dates is celebrated one of the most expected and important festivities in Peru: the Feast of the Virgin of Candelaria, where the city of Puno and the communities throughout the region of Puno are dressed in colors and the streets are filled with parties, so you will know Puno in its most fun and joyful version.
