How to get to Machu Picchu Citadel from Aguas Calientes?

To get to one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World: the Citadel of Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), you only have 3 options and they are the following:

1.- Take the Consettur bus company.

From Aguas Calientes you must board a bus that will leave you at the door of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Center. The Consettur company is the only transportation company that goes to Machu Picchu Citadel, so you will not find other buses in the area that make that route. These bus tickets are NOT SOLD OUT, therefore, you can buy them even on the same day of your visit to the citadel.

And you can also purchase your tickets at the ticket office located in Aguas Calientes, the address is: Puente Sinchi Roca 111, Aguas Calientes.

Tip: buy your bus ticket in advance to avoid the long lines that are usually made in Aguas Calientes. At the ticket office they do not accept debit or credit cards only cash either soles or dollars.

Every 10 minutes buses depart from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu Citadel, the trip lasts approximately 30 minutes.

2.- Hikking (free option)

Hiking is the free option to get to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Center. This option consists of walking uphill to the Machu Picchu Citadel from Aguas Calientes. The hike is not very difficult and is used by many travelers who want to have a more relaxing experience, exercise along the way or simply for its 0 cost.

The journey is not very long, but it also depends on your physical condition, many travelers do it in about 2 hours. The trail is well known, so you will see several signs that will indicate where to start the walk to the Citadel of Machu Picchu.

3.- Tourist agency

There are many tour agencies that offer ALL INCLUSIVE tours, which means that they take care of the transfers, so you will not have to worry about getting to the Citadel of Machu Picchu, because the tour companies take care of it.
