About the Wari Archaeological Complex
The Wari Museum and Archaeological Complex is located in the town of Quinua – Ayacucho and is dedicated to the Wari Culture, an ancient Andean civilization that flourished between 600 and 1000 AD.
The museum exhibits ceramics, textiles and metalwork, among other objects, that help to understand the daily life, architecture, religious beliefs and artistic achievements of what was once the Wari civilization.
This museum is really extensive, particularly we called our attention the ceramics, textiles and deformed skulls, because in those times they performed ceremonies in which they deformed the skulls to demonstrate power and social strata of some people, also have a mummy on display, revealing how they used to bury their dead.
In the archaeological complex there are structures where they buried their dead and enclosures where they performed ceremonies and sacrifices of animals and humans, although the latter is not known for sure, although they are based theories of expert archaeologists.
In the archaeological center and outside it you can take some fun pictures with people who represent ancient Wari warriors, a good way to get a visual memory of your visit to the town of Quinoa, where you can also find the Historical Sanctuary of the Pampa de la Quinoa.
In the museum they do not offer guide service, but normally you will find some tour guides that work privately offering their services just outside the museum, normally they only offer guides in Spanish, but if you are lucky they may speak other languages as well.
The cost of their services is S/. 30 soles ( USD 9 dollars) for a group of 5 people. If you are more curious about the Wari culture I suggest you opt for the services of the guides, besides being very qualified in it, you would support that these services (sometimes very little valued), continue to receive the contribution they deserve.
