The province of Ayacucho is well known for its rich history, colonial architecture and traditional handicrafts. The province also played an important role in Peru’s War of Independence and later in the country’s internal conflicts during the 20th century in the fight against terrorism.
Today Ayacucho is a popular tourist destination with breathtaking views, lakes, churches, gastronomy and much more. It is also well known for the celebration of one of the most important religious festivities in Peru: Holy Week, which has been held since the viceregal era, so, through altars, religious images, dances, flower arrangements and much more, we represent the passion, death of Christ and our Catholic fervor.
In addition, Ayacucho is known for the wonderful Ayacucho carnivals, which are celebrated in the month of February in every corner of the Ayacucho region.
